Appellation(s): Cote de Beaune.
Vincent Girardin, who is now farming 22 ha biodynamically is the 11th generation of Girardins to have produced wine in the commune of Santenay. Vincent inherited 25% of his father’s vineyards in 1982 and has in the last 18 years built up his holdings to over 13 hectares, including plots in Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Volnay and his native Santenay. His reds are of consistently high quality, with the emphasis being on purity of fruit and smooth, supple tannins. However, it is with whites that he really excels, producing a range of wines which are characterised by their depth of fruit and exquisite balance. These whites are extremely approachable when young but the top crus benefit from 4-5 years of bottle ageing.
